Organic Ingredients in Our Food

Updated: Jul 8, 2020

It's our mission to deliver the healthiest ingredients available

At About Thyme, we never buy anything with pesticides, chemicals, preservatives, genetically modified (GMO's), or with hormones. It is our mission to deliver the healthiest ingredients available. It is not only healthier, but it tastes better.

Did you know that the USDA uses many ingredients that many countries have banned? We don't use any of them in our food. We have been ordering from local farms for years. While some are not "certified" organic, none of our sources use pesticides or chemicals.

Did you know that 95% of our offerings are organic, free-range, or wild?

With COVID-19 hitting harder than ever, we are learning more and more that the virus not only attacks weak immune systems, but that our diet plays a strong part in how your body resists this virus. That's why I wanted to tell you more about our food and the latest addition to our menu.

With schools and businesses re-opening, let's give our immune system a boost!

NEW "Organic & Healthy" Meal Selections

In addition to our weekly delivery menu selections, About Thyme will now be offering the following "Organic & Healthy" meals on a regular weekly basis:

  1. Atlantic Wild Salmon

  2. Organic Chicken

  3. Organic Seasonal Vegetables

  4. Organic Beans & Whole Grains

  5. Organic Greens: Spinach, Kale, Red Chard, Collard Greens

You will notice that many of the ingredients in our weekly menus are listed as some of the healthiest foods on the planet.

Always Offering Healthy Ingredients: How About Thyme Can Help Your Immune System

In order to compare our meal offerings to our competitors, I researched food companies that offer meal delivery programs in the Los Angeles area, specifically ones that touted that they offered organic selections. Sun-Basket seemed like the best healthy, organic food delivery program and they offer organic meals for $12-$15 a meal. However, I know the prices of organic food, and this seemed hard to believe, so I continued to research them and found this.

After analyzing five meal meal kit orders, they found “the total organic ingredients by net weight to be 35% on average.”

The article goes on to say that “A lot of their produce is NOT organic and I find it misleading that they have a big USDA Organic stamp on their website,” wrote another Yelp reviewer in 2016. “When I emailed them to address this I was told if you ‘hover over’ the stamp, it states they source organic when they can. It just seems a little sketchy to me because how many people are going to know to hover over it? And I’ve noticed a lot of the reviews here rave about the fact everything is organic, when it’s not.”

I believe they started off small with the best intentions and got big and lost their way. At About Thyme, we are committed to offering the best organic ingredients and meal selections that work for everyone. I have clients with acid reflex, allergies, gluten-free needs, low salt requirements, etc. - just think of me as your personal chef. It is my mission to get everyone their desired meal selections each week.

If you are looking for a super, simple, organic meal options, try out "Organic & Healthy" selections from the menu here. That being said, I believe in eating anything I want 1-2 days out of the week. There is no perfect diet for everyone, there is only what works for you and that's why we offer a variety of healthy meals.

Suggestions for Our Menu or Meal Delivery Programs

I am always open to improving and would love to get your suggestions:

  • What do you want to see on the menu?

  • What are your favorite meals?

  • Do you have any dietary restrictions?

  • Do you like spicy foods? ethnic foods?

The bottom line is that at About Thyme we offer organic food that meets all dietary needs. We hope that the new additions to the menu will meet additional needs.

We are in this together, and only together will we get through this.

From our Kitchen delivered to your home,

John Kinderman
